The series is on the line for the New South Wales Blues when they face the Queensland Maroons in a big clash of the second ODI at Optus Stadium in Perth.

The Blues made collective changes in a desperate bid to win the series and force the decider at Suncorp Stadium, while the Maroons could wrap up the series with a win in Game Two.

Both teams are 1-17 with New South Wales coach Brad Fittler not making any late changes to his core squad as he did in the series opener.

Cronk and Ennis on where the match will be won

Maroons legend Cooper Cronk believes the match will be decided by the Blues starting forwards.

Hooker Abe currisao, prop Jake Trbojevic and second rower Liam Martin all come into Brad Fittler’s starting pack in Perth.

“The key to this whole game is for NSW to start the forwards, if they dominate the first 20 and get their rhythm and put Queensland in the back,”Cronk said on Fox League.

“Then I think Cleary and Tedesco keep running. Let the attackers punch each other and look for a knockout and then after 15 minutes let’s play footy.”

Former New South Wales hooker Mick Ennis wants the Blues to beat Queensland in their own tactics.

“It’s origin and we should have known, when Cameron Smith comes in as an assistant and Nat Miles comes in as an assistant,”Ennis said.

“These guys have played 20 or 30 Queensland Origin games recently and they know exactly everything you can get rid of in origin and it’s completely different at club level.

“They pushed the envelope and got away with it and that’s what hurt New South Wales the most, Freddie and Brandi said We were very nice, we turned up ready to play footy and Queensland went in with that Origin mentality.

“I hope we are bad tonight. I hope we are, and I hope we get down and dirty and put our heads in places (people don’t want to put them), we need to make Queensland uncomfortable on the ground.”

Blues ‘ Freddie’s big call before Game 2

The New South Wales Blues did comfortably last year to take home the Origin shield but this time face a must-win Game 2 in Perth.

If the Blues stumble and in the process of the series to Queensland, the pressure will only continue to build on coach Brad Fittler.

Questionable selection calls have seen Fittler come under a lot of scrutiny but his job appears to be secure, even if NSW fail to retain the shield.

“What Freddie has delivered for our organisation since his appointment as coach has been nothing short of outstanding,” Eagles coach Dave troden told The Sydney Morning Herald.

“He has achieved consistent success, he has always had the self-confidence to do things his way. All I’m going to say is, underestimate it at your peril.”

Fittler has been contracted as New South Wales coach for 2023 and could activate a clause to coach again in 2024 if he wins another series, either this year or next.

Murray backs Talakai to run riot

Cameron Murray is coming back a long way with Blues newcomer siosiva Talakai and backing him to fire against the Maroons in Perth.

Murray revealed that he looked up to Talakai during their Rugby Union days at school and when they played together in the South.

“I’m glad he’s by my side,”Murray said.

“I’m excited for him that he got the opportunity. I have known syuseva since he was very young. I always looked at him. He played in the same union team as me. The year was over me.

“It’s really good to see him here. I missed him a little bit after he left the South. He’s been on his own little journey and now he’s at the Sharks and he’s got his place.

“He has been training well and I am sure he will have a big one.”

After a brutal training week, Murray believes the Blues will be ready for the physical battle in Origin II.

“That’s what Origin is all about,”Murray said.

“You dream of playing Origin. I’m living my childhood dream and just trying to remind myself of that in every match and give my best.

“I try to play every game as if it were the last and do everything I can to give my best for myself and my teammates.

With the shield handover loss to the Maroons, Murray and the Blues know exactly what’s at stake on Sunday night in Perth.

“We’re looking forward to keeping the series alive,”Murray said.

“We had some success here two years ago and we are looking forward to doing the same.

“Trust has been built. Our training was really shaky and everyone was working hard on their sets.

“We have worked hard to improve what we need to improve to win.”

Brandi frosty on the Blues changes

Blues assistant Greg Alexander could not see a big deal in NSW making late changes, although he could not predict which line-up tweaks for Game Two.

The Blues supplied Cameron Murray and the emerging Paulo before the kick-off of the first match and Alexander believes that Brad Fittler has the right to adjust his bench as every coach in the NRL does every week.

“No, I don’t think so,” Alexander said when asked if there were changes in the starting team.

“But this is the privilege of the coach and this happens weekly.

“So if we make a good change, I don’t see the huge deal in it. But there will be no changes.”

Alexander also dismissed suggestions that the amount of changes to the side’s form game would damage the Blues ‘ cohesion.

“The boys who came away from Matt Burton have been here before,”Alexander said.

“Dad kurosao was part of one camp game as a player from 18 to 21, so dad knows what to do.

“Cookie knows his role. Everyone is very good at knowing what they have to do.

“Tonight’s match is not so much about the players that come into the side, but just the game that NSW play.”

Origin II at Optus Stadium sold out

The Blues ‘ clash with the Maroons at Optus Stadium in Perth is officially a betrayal on the back of the series opener in Sydney also reaching capacity crowds.

“The National Rugby League (NRL) announced today that the A-League Two State of origin in Perth has officially sold out,” NRL said in a statement.

“Following Queensland’s win in the first game of the series in Sydney, the first state of origin trip to Optus Stadium since 2019 will take place in front of a full house.

“With only individual tickets available for the third match in Brisbane, AFL chief executive Andrew Abdo said fans had responded in an extraordinary way to ensure capacity crowds across the series.”

“We are delighted to announce a sale in Perth for Ampol’s second state of Origin match,”Abdo said.

Public Enemy Blues No. 1 or banned from social media

The mother of Blues star Liam Martin has been banned from the internet by her children amid the uproar surrounding her son whom Queensland has labelled a grub.

Queensland media have described Martin as the Blues ‘ biggest grubber since Paul Gallen and his mother Maxine has been protective of her son in light of what she considers unfair allegations.

“When it happened, it was like a MoMA bear came out inside me,”Maxine told 2dafm’s Hughesy, Ed and Erin.

“When I watched the game I saw more facial massage and then beauty salon, they are all rough there.
