Nearly two weeks after their tragic death in a helicopter crash, NBA great Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna were buried during a private funeral at Pacific View Memorial Park in Corona del Mar, Calif.

The father and daughter had a joint funeral attended by the family. The couple is survived by Vanessa Bryant and three other girls, Natalia, 17, Bianca, 3, and Capri, 7 months.

“Vanessa and her family wanted to organize a private service to mourn their loss,” a source tells ET. “The ceremony was very hard on everyone, as they are still having a hard time realizing that they lost two beautiful souls.”

Vanessa recently shared her deep anguish and grief over the loss of her husband and daughter. On Monday, she wrote that she still can’t believe her loved ones are gone. “I can’t process both at the same time.

It’s like I’m trying to come to terms with Kobe’s passing, but my body refuses to accept that Gigi will never come back to me. It doesn’t feel right. Why do I have to wake up another day when my baby girl doesn’t have that opportunity! I am so angry. She had so much life to live.”

She also acknowledged that despite her overwhelming grief, she still needs to be present for her other three children. “I know it feels normal. It’s part of the grieving process. I just wanted to share in case anyone has experienced such a loss,” she says.

In addition to the private service, Vanessa recently shared that a public memorial will be held at Staples Center in Los Angeles, where Kobe spent his entire 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The date of Feb. 24 has special significance. “No. 2, No. 24, No. 20 years as Lakers and the number of years Kobe and I have been together,” Vanessa writes next to a graphic showing the date and time of the memorial.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti confirms that another service is planned to honor all nine people who died in the plane crash. “There absolutely will be a memorial to honor the contributions of this incredible man, and not just him, but to honor the loss of his daughter and all the other families that were there,” he told The Los Angeles Times.

The public memorial will mourn the loss of Kobe, Gianna and seven others who died that day – Alyssa Altobelli, John Altobelli, Keri Altobelli, Payton Chester, Sarah Chester, Christina Mauser and Ara Zobayan.

Garcetti told the Times, “We don’t have a definitive date, but we talk every day with the Lakers and, most importantly, with [Bryant’s widow, Vanessa],” he explained. “I think one message I would say is it’s not just about a man who was a basketball player, it’s about a father, it’s about a leader, it’s about a director, it’s about an artist, it’s about someone who was much more than just the way he acted on the court.”
