Following media reports of a leopard sighting on the university campus on Jan. 11, Bangalore University on Thursday urged its students, especially those living in hostels, as well as faculty and staff, to be vigilant and restrict their movement at night.
The university’s circular also recommended that any sighting of a leopard be reported to higher authorities. The administration has also asked the Forest Department to capture the leopard.

On Wednesday, several students said they had seen a leopard on the university campus.
“In view of the reports in the media and on social media about the sighting of a leopard on the university campus, all students of the university, especially residents of the dormitories, faculty members and other staff members are urged to exercise caution and stay away at night. They should immediately inform higher authorities as soon as they notice the movement of a leopard,” the circular said.
In December 2022, residents had complained about the movement of leopards in Turahalli, Kengeri, Yelahanka and Chinnakurchi in Bengaluru. The forest department has set traps to catch the wild animal, but so far without success.
