A 12-year-old girl in Argentina died this week after attempting a deadly “choking challenge” that first went viral on TikTok.
“We are inconsolable [because] we gave her so much love,” Laura Luque, the aunt of the deceased, told Jam Press of the tragedy, which occurred Jan. 13 in Captain Bermudez, Santa Fe province.
Her niece Milagros Soto was found dead in her home after allegedly taking part in a viral “choking challenge,” one of several deadly fads spread on TikTok. The little girl was found hanging from a homemade noose, local publication El Litoral reported.

Soto is not the first teenager to tragically die as a result of a disturbing online stunt. Over the summer, 14-year-old Leon Brown and 12-year-old Archie Battersby allegedly died in the U.K. because of the same viral threat.
Soto successfully attempted the challenge twice, but failed on her third attempt to remove the noose, Jam Press reported. “The third time she was unable to remove the rope from her neck,” Luque lamented about the fatal incident, which was reportedly caught on camera.
Soto’s motives for her deadly stunt are still unclear. However, her aunt claims that the student received a WhatsApp message referencing the stunt after being bullied at school.
“I think someone encouraged her to do it,” the grief-stricken relative insists. “She suffered a lot from the bullying.”
Soto successfully passed the test twice, but failed on her third attempt.

Luque added: “She told us that no one wanted to see her in school because she was beautiful with blond hair.”
Despite the preliminary explanation, the girl’s aunt said she had “a lot of doubts about everything that happened to her” because “she was a very smart girl.”
Authorities have since launched an investigation to try to get to the bottom of the girl’s death.
The community was shocked by the loss of little Soto.
“We support our student’s family at this terrible moment,” said school spokesman 223 Tte. Gral. Pablo Ricchieri, where the deceased attended. They described the deceased as “a great student, a friend, sweet, good and kind.”
Meanwhile, on this side of the pond, TikTok has faced wrongful death lawsuits after two California girls fatally hanged themselves after watching “blackout challenge” videos on the platform.
“TikTok invested billions of dollars in the intentional design and development of its product to encourage, create and promote to teens and children content that the defendant knows is problematic and extremely harmful to the mental health of its underage users,” the suit states.
TikTok did not respond to The Post’s request for comment. In the past, the streaming platform has denied responsibility for the problem, claiming that the “choke game” injuries suffered by young people occurred long before the shutdown was challenged.
